This is the question we will be answering in the next few months. Robots are inherently inaccurate. They have improved substantially over the last years but they were not designed to be used to measure as the position fault of each axis propagates to the tip of the working arm. On the other hand their speed, robustness and reliability are excellent.
We will adapt our carbon scale technology to a standard 6 axis industrial robot to prove that part inspection can be performed with adequate accuracy combined with speed and reliability. The challenge: 5µm repeatability and 50% of a typical CMM cycle time.
